CHARLOTTE, N.C. _ Tens of thousands of people from across the nation have gathered in Charlotte this weekend to honor an American hero.
The largemouth bass.
Forget the rainbow trout. And the catfish. And the crappie. During fishing's version of "the greatest show on earth" _ the Bassmaster Classic _ the bass is the only keeper you'll find on the marquee.
Everywhere you go in Charlotte, you're reminded that this is more than just another bass tournament. It is a celebration of a fish that has developed a rabid, nationwide following.
Take a look:
Before most of Charlotte has even woken up, hundreds of fans gather at the Classic launch site on Lake Wylie, lining the banks and filling the water with spectator boats as they waited for the pros to take off.
