The Phillies spoke for Philadelphia on Thursday.
Faced with a crisis in the clubhouse and in the standings, they did what this city's history suggested they would do.
They quit.
Not since the Eagles went belly-up when faced with the awful prospect of playing in a Super Bowl two seasons ago has a Philadelphia team been so true to form.
Welcome to Philadelphia, lads. You learn quickly.
The Flyers quit on Terry Murray in 1997, then quit on Eric Lindros a few years later. The 76ers quit on Randy Ayers last winter, then Allen Iverson quit on Chris Ford.
