The current confusion over low-fat versus high-fat diets brings to mind the Woody Allen movie "Sleeper," in which Allen awakes 200 years in the future and requests a "healthy" meal of wheat germ, organic honey and tiger's milk.
"Oh yes," says one of the scientists observing him. "Those are the charmed substances that some years ago were thought to contain life-preserving properties." Stunned, the other scientist asks: "You mean there was no deep fat, no steak, or cream pies or hot fudge?"
No, replies the first scientist. "Those were thought to be unhealthy _ precisely the opposite of what we now know to be true."
That movie is almost three decades old, but still captures perfectly the confusion…
