Dec. 27--And you thought holiday shopping ended with Christmas Day.

For many consumers, getting up early on Dec. 26 to fill their shopping carts is as much of a tradition as singing carols or slurping eggnog.

"This is the time to buy," said Richard Crutcher of Quincy as he looked for bargains on seasonal merchandise at Burdines in Governor's Square mall. He and sister Lori Sams woke up at 6 a.m. Thursday to scan after-Christmas sale ads for the best deals.

"I came prepared to shop," said Sams, who was visiting from Cincinnati.

Retailers nationwide hope consumers will open their wallets for after-Christmas sales …
