Santa Fe, N.M., airport may soon accept 60-passenger jets.

Jul. 27--SANTA FE, N.M. -- The Santa Fe airport is moving toward federal certification that could mean bigger commercial passenger jets landing there.

Airport manager Jim Montman says the move could lead to service at the airport by regional carriers -- such as American Eagle, United Express or Delta Connection -- with jets for up to 60 passengers.

In April, the council approved Montman's request to move forward with the application.

The council's action has provoked fears among some airport critics that the certification amounts to approval for unlimited expansion of the airport, up to accepting flights by 747 jumbo jets.
