Jul. 25--The convergence yesterday of 14 textile and fabrics trade groups and 11 congressional representatives gave Triad political representatives encouragement that local jobs could be protected from low-cost Chinese imports.

The trade groups filed four petitions yesterday with the Committee for the Implementation of Textile Agreements in a bid to get the Bush Administration to enforce Chinese-import safeguards in four product categories -- knit fabric, and cotton and man-made fiber gloves, dressing gowns and robes, and brasseries.
