Jul. 21--LIPPMAN TO LEAD TEAM AT KPMG TAX DIVISION: Michael Lippman is taking over KPMG LLP's state and local tax practice at a time when a wave of corporate accounting scandals has prompted company finances to be scrutinized more than ever.

"There is a level of quality that companies are demanding today that they were not demanding 10 years ago," he said. "It's exciting, but it's also challenging."

Mr. Lippman, 45, who has more than two decades of experience with state and local tax matters, was recently named national partner-in-charge of the firm's state and local tax (SALT) practice. The appointment returns Mr.

Lippman to a position he held until 1998.

From his D.C. office, Mr. Lippman leads a team of 500 tax professionals across the country in ensuring tax compliance and providing consultation services to multinational corporations.
