Verizon Wireless raises earnings, plans to add 150 jobs in Philadelphia area.

Jul. 28--In announcing strong second-quarter earnings yesterday, Verizon Communications Inc. said its wireless division plans on adding 150 jobs in the Philadelphia region.

New York-based Verizon, which offers local and long-distance phone, fast Internet and wireless phone services, reported a profit of $1.8 billion, or 64 cents a share, up from $338 million, or 12 cents a share, in the second quarter of 2003.

Revenue for the quarter was $17.8 billion, compared with $16.8 billion a year before.
