Jul. 26--The saying is "Age is just a number." It's a lie.

Everything about people and life is a reflection of the age of the participants.

Which is why one of my pet peeves is newspaper stories that fail to give a subject's age. Stories are incomplete without it -- and frustrating: A story about Florida State president T.K. Wetherell having prostate cancer failed to tell us his age.

A story about how country singer Steve Azar started playing music at 17 failed to tell us his age.

Stories about Kobe Bryant said his parents were upset he married his wife, Vanessa, when she was 18, but didn't tell us how old …
