Jul. 12--TRINIDAD, Colo.--The oil and gas industry now accounts for more than half of Las Animas County's total land value.

That's the assessment of L.A. County Assessor Dan Espinoza, who said Thursday that the county has reached an assessed valuation of $245 million with the oil and gas industry representing nearly $125 million of that total.

"Right now the county's assessed valuation has gone up almost $45 million this year and 90 percent of that has come from the gas industry," said Espinoza. "I won't have a final figure until August but our gas industry takes a little over 50 percent of our county's total (assessed) value."…
