Jul. 31--OGDEN, Utah--The same factors that led to the McCarthey family's loss of The Salt Lake Tribune were at play when Ogden's Standard-Examiner passed out of family hands nine years ago.
In both cases, the third and fourth generations of the family were split over continued ownership. Most cousins wanted out, but a core family tried to hold on.
The Standard-Examiner had been owned by descendants of William Glasmann, who had bought the Ogden Standard in the mid-1890s and The Morning Examiner in 1904. The papers were combined in 1920.
