Aug. 23--The unemployment rate in the Triad increased sharply to 7.1 percent in July from a revised 6.5 percent the month before, which state officials mainly attributed to temporary summer shutdowns by local manufacturing plants.
However, the jobless situation in Forsyth County improved.
According to data released yesterday by the N.C. Employment Security Commission, the county's unemployment rate fell to 5.8 percent last month from a revised 5.9 percent in June. The commission said that 142,820 people were recorded as being employed in the county in July.
