Montgomery County, Ohio, Unemployment Rate Rises to 5.5 Percent.

Oct. 19--Montgomery County's unemployment rate increased in September, and the number of jobless in Dayton grew even more, the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services reported Friday.

The unemployment rate in Montgomery County grew in September to 5.5 percent, or 15,500 people in a labor pool of 284,000. That's up from 5.3 percent in August 2002 and 4.5 percent in September 2001.

The September unemployment rate in Dayton inched up to 9.4 percent, or 7,400 people in a labor force of 78,800. In August the unemployment rate was 9.2 percent. A year ago the rate was 7.7 percent.

The figures are not seasonally adjusted. …
