Oct. 26--Jack in the Box has some new items on its menu: suntan lotion, combs, cigarettes.

The San Diego-based company, which has struggled of late in the sluggish fast-food industry, said yesterday that it plans to open convenience stores adjacent to full-sized Jack in the Box restaurants and co-branded gas stations.

Quick Stuff shops will cover 2,000-square-feet of floor space, replete with candy bars, lottery tickets and kindred sundries, a la 7-Eleven stores.

Jack in the Box said it plans to open eight Quick Stuff outlets in the United States in the next year, although none is yet planned for San Diego County. …
