Mar. 6--Years of breathing tiny airborne particles -- pollutants typically found in many metro areas, including Atlanta -- significantly increases the risk of dying from lung cancer and heart attack, a study of a half-million adults found.
The lung cancer risk is comparable to that faced by a nonsmoker living with a cigarette smoker, according to the authors of the study published today in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
