Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Posts Rise in Fourth-Quarter Net Income.

Mar. 9--Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc. reported yesterday a 94 percent increase in net income in its fiscal fourth quarter compared to the same period a year ago, and raised its earnings outlook for this fiscal year.

The company also announced initiatives to bolster investor confidence in light of greater scrutiny of public companies by investors and the government since the collapse of Enron Corp.

The company, based in Winston-Salem, said that net income in the three months ended Feb. 3 was $8.3 million, or 14 cents a share, up from $4.3 million, or 8 cents a share in the year-ago period. The earnings per share figure was a penny …
