Apr. 18--Computer maker Gateway Inc. is opposing a bill that would bar people from copying or transferring digital music.
The measure, sponsored by Sen. Ernest Hollings, D-S.C., is designed to give additional copyright protectiion to owners of digital content.
But Gateway and other opponents of the bill say it would infringe on consumers' personal freedoms.
A spokesman says the groups aren't supporting illegal downloads from Web sites such as Napster but are backing the rights of people to make personal copies of music they have purchased legally.
