Mar. 5--The Dow Jones industrial average closed at a new 2003 low on Tuesday, prompting some analysts to worry that the blue chip index may eventually drop below its Oct. 9 bear market low.
The gap between the blue chip index and its Oct. 9 closing price has shrunk to 5.8 percent. The high point since that date occurred Nov. 27, when the Dow peaked with a gain of 22.6 percent.
Only one of the Dow's 30 stocks posted a gain in Tuesday's trading: The aircraft maker and defense contractor Boeing rose 1.3 percent.
