Jul. 16--RF Micro Devices Inc. reported a loss of $8.1 million, or 4 cents a diluted share, for its fiscal first quarter compared with a profit of $2.3 million, or one cent a diluted share, a year ago, the company said yesterday.

The net loss was two cents lower than the company originally expected, but officials said they were happy with the results.

"We're pleased to have shown improved financial performance in our core business," said Bob Bruggeworth, RF Micro's president and chief executive.

Revenue for the three months ended June 30, was $131.5 million, up 26 percent from $103.9 million a year ago. Bruggeworth …
