Outrageous! Palm One has the nerve to charge $25 upfront to speak to customer service once a warranty has expired.
As electronics become more advanced, consumers need more assistance. But manufacturers are running for cover, reducing product warranties to as little as 90 days and doing away with free customer service. Palm One isn't alone _ HP charges about $30 for tech support after a warranty expires; Sony's fee is $19.95. In September, Dell, which built its reputation on good service, will start charging for post-warranty customer-service calls and pushing extended warranties for around $60.
