MIAMI _ US Airways is expected to announce on Monday plans to create an international hub at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and nearly quintuple the number of destinations it serves from there, two aviation sources say.

The move would create the first such hub at Fort Lauderdale, elevating the status of an airport already among the fastest growing in the nation _ while providing more competition for Miami International Airport.

Financially struggling US Airways would likely begin new nonstop service to 15 cities from Fort Lauderdale, including flights to Latin America and the Caribbean, the Northeast and Florida, the sources said. …
