Mar. 30--Manuel Zambrana is answering a question that's been nagging downtown Dallas for decades: Which comes first, the neighborhood or the neighborhood grocery store?
The 55-year-old intends to craft 20,000 square feet of space in the Interurban Building at 1500 Jackson St. into a traditional grocery store; a cafe serving breakfast, lunch and dinner; a wine, beer and coffee bar; a service deli with fresh meats, seafood and cheeses; a large section of grab-and-go foods; a 16-foot salad bar; fresh bakery goods; and a quesadilla station where you can let your cravings for "Mexican pizza" run wild.
Oh, and let's not forget the pet food department.
Mr. Zambrana hopes that in doing so, he'll help bring more residents downtown.
Is he a little frightened?
Yeah. But he's certain he can pull it off.
"I'm probably the best-equipped person to give this a shot," he says cheerily.
