Each Summer Sue and I flee the traffic-gridlocked parking lot otherwise known as South Florida in joyous pursuit of motorcycling Nirvana. Our destination? An idyllic river valley on the banks of the Greenbrier, in the mountains of southern West Virginia.
With its adventure-touring focus, our Cagiva Gran Canyon can ably handle the wide range of road conditions native to this magnificent landscape, and its sport-touring character provides good handling and accommodations for two-up riding on the blacktop. The Gran Canyon is essentially a great street bike that can handle moderate off-road activity.
Our base camp is near Lewisburg, a small town daring from the 1700s. There's a lot of history to be found hereabouts. The Appalachians of this region are relatively gentle, heavily forested and abundant with wildlife.
