Mar. 29--The humble little skiff won't turn many heads on Biscayne Bay, with its crowd of fast and fancy rigs.
But one of the latest, and smallest, research vessels in the federal fleet is making a big difference in documenting life in the least-studied section of the bay -- the narrow strip of shallows just off the mainland from Coconut Grove south to Turkey Point.
"This is an area where we know very little about what is there and how much is there," said Diego Lirman, a University of Miami marine biologist who is teaming with two federal scientists on the innovative survey.
