Mar. 29--Newborns in Latin America can be tested at birth for life-threatening disorders, thanks to an arrangement announced Monday between IVAX, the Miami-based drug maker, and Pediatrix Medical Group, the Fort Lauderdale firm specializing in newborn services.

Under the agreement, IVAX's 2,000 salesmen in Latin America will promote and sell Pediatrix's StepOne Newborn Screening Program, which can detect more than 50 metabolic disorders from a few drops of blood.
