After winning several vocal contests in her native Australia, including the 1950 Sydney Sun Aria competition, Bronhill chose to further her career in London, where she made her debut with Sadler's Wells in 1954. Her roles there over the next decade included Gretel, Flotow's Martha, Gilda, Zerbinetta, Norina, the Queen of the Night and the lead in the first English production of The Cunning Little Vixen, in 1961.
