The soprano made her debut in 1924, as Lucia in Novi Ligure. The Irish diva Margaret Sheridan heard the teenaged Carosio and recommended her to Covent Garden, where she sang Musetta in La Boheme with Sheridan and Aureliano Pertile and Feodor to the Boris Godunov of Chaliapin in 1928. In Italy, Carosio was an important lyric-coloratura soprano for more than two decades, enjoying a special association with La Scala, where she made her debut in 1931, as Oscar in Un Ballo in Maschera. Other important La Scala appearances included Egloge in the world premiere of Mascagni's Nerone (1935) and Gnese in the first performances of Wolf-Ferrari's Il Campiello (1936), plus the leading roles in the Italian premieres of Die Schweigsame Frau and Menotti's Amelia al Ballo.
Carosio's photogenic face and slim figure won her roles in European films, among them Regina della Scala (1937) and Sarasate (1941); she reportedly refused an offer to continue her movie career in ...
