Mar. 27--The Bush administration said Friday that it would approve the sale of F-16 fighter jets to Pakistan and would consider requests from its nuclear rival, India.
The diplomatically sensitive move is aimed at improving security in South Asia, administration officials said, specifically citing three neighboring countries: Pakistan, India and Afghanistan.
The sale would also be a boon to Lockheed Martin, which builds the fighters in Fort Worth.
President Bush spoke by telephone from his ranch near Crawford, Texas, with the prime minister of India, Manmohan Singh, to tell him that the administration was moving ahead with the sale of the F-16s to Pakistan, as well as responding to India's request for information...
