Mar. 26--Two Miami-Dade County lawmakers, concerned about exploding development on the borders of Biscayne Bay and the Everglades, are hoping to get $25 million from the state to speed up land buys.
Environmentalists are enthusiastically backing the effort, led by Rep. Dan Gelber, a Miami Beach Democrat, and Rep. Marco Rubio, a Miami Republican and House majority leader.
"It's definitely enough money to make a difference," said April Gromnicki, Everglades policy coordinator for Audubon of Florida. "Keep it coming."
