Mar. 25--A high-ranking DISD administrator will probably compete against the leader of a suburban district for the Dallas superintendent job.

Jim Scales, deputy superintendent for administrative services in the Dallas Independent School District, is capable of doing the job, said some trustees, who would not confirm or deny if Dr. Scales is a candidate.

Trustee Lew Blackburn said he and others believe Dr. Scales is capable of running the state's second-largest district.

"I think he can, and I think the board thinks he can," Dr. Blackburn said. "He's been in that [the superintendent's] seat before, so I know he can handle the job. My colleagues appreciate him, and they regularly thank him for his work."

Dr. Scales, who has been with DISD for about four years, said he couldn't discuss the search.
