Mar. 25--Clutching a crumpled dollar bill as he bled to death, Alfonso Fuentes expressed a pressing concern.
"He was worried about his ice cream cart," said Patricia Mendoza, a nurse who lives near the north Oak Cliff street where Mr. Fuentes, an ice cream vendor, was shot Saturday.
Mr. Fuentes, 28, asked onlookers whether his bicycle ice cream cart had been struck by bullets and told them to notify his employer, whose number was on the ice cream bar wrappers.
He was the second ice cream vendor killed by armed robbers in Dallas since 2003. The vendors reported about 120 robberies in 2003-2004, said Dallas police Lt. Victor Woodberry, a robbery unit supervisor. But most such robberies are not reported, people familiar with the business say.
