As we reported in the March issue, the 2005 World Off-Road Championship Series will have an ATV only schedule. That's right, no more having to share the pits with those egotistical dirt bike riders! Just kidding dirt bike guys, we love you. No really, we do.
We think it will work well for both sides. No longer will ATVs be overshadowed by the dirt bikes, and the ATVs will not have to race on a rutted-up course. And, of course, we won't bother the bike guys. Again, we kid, we kid.
The key to ATVs maintaining their own series is rider and spectator participation and the support of aftermarket companies and parts suppliers. One of those companies is Rocky Mountain ATV. Like last year, the company has signed on as title sponsor of the ATV series and will give a 10-percent discount to all riders who purchase Rocky Mountain ATV-house products. It also will supply the 4-Stroke A champion with a Limited Edition Yamaha YFZ450. Also, Jet Shed Polaris has donated a 2005 Polaris Predator for the Production A National Champion.
These discounts and prizes, combined with more than $100,000 in contingency awards, make this an incredible year to be involved in WORCS ATV racing.
For those interested in participating in the eight-race series, it helps to live on the West Coast. The races are scheduled for Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, Texas, Utah and Washington.
Opening Round
The 2005 season kicked off in Surprise, Ariz., at Speedworld Raceway, which is less than 30 minutes from downtown Phoenix. WORCS "trackmaster" Sean Reddish designed an excellent five-mile course that utilized almost the entire motocross track (with its mild mix of jumps)...
