Mar. 15--MADISON -- Beneath those shiny, hard plastic handles on supermarket shopping carts, germs lurk. So many germs, in fact, that according to one university study, public bathrooms can be cleaner.

The health risk was the subject of a report on the syndicated news magazine "Inside Edition," in November, 2003.

Susan Ronan, a disabled former hospital worker living in Winslow at the time, recalled watching the show -- it gave her an idea.
