Feb. 28--COMPANIES HAVE LOST OUR IDS: There's no shortage of information on how to protect yourself from identity theft.
But you can only do so much.
Equally responsible are the institutions to which we entrust our personal data. And recently, two have had major problems.
ChoicePoint Inc., one of the largest sellers of private consumer data, said an identity theft ring fraudulently gained access to its databases, compromising the personal information of about 145,000 consumers.
