Feb. 28--RADIOSHACK CEO-ELECT EXPECTS NO DISRUPTIONS FROM SWITCHOVER: FORT WORTH -- Dave Edmondson spent 10 years in training to nail down his job.
He isn't a slow learner.
It's a big job.
Last month, the 45-year-old was named CEO-elect of RadioShack Corp. -- effectively running the giant consumer electronics chain, even though his official coronation isn't until the annual meeting on May 19.
"I've worked hard to be CEO of this company," says Mr. Edmondson, sitting in a conference room at the new 900,000-square-foot corporate headquarters in downtown Fort Worth. "Although there's never been a guarantee, there's been a succession plan in place for 10 years."
He's taken the reins from Len Roberts, who enticed Mr. Edmondson to RadioShack in late 1994 by dangling the chief executive job there as a carrot. Mr. Roberts was all of 45 at the time, Mr. Edmondson a "wet-behind-the-ears" 35.
Since then, the two have worked side by side on every major initiative, and Mr. Edmondson was named president and chief operating officer in 2000.
Mr. Edmondson's selection surprised no one. But even the board was caught off guard by the timing....
