Feb. 27--The proposed Collin County arts hall has a site, a preliminary master plan and $68 million in the bank.
But its biggest asset, supporters say, is a person: Robbie Robinson.
Mr. Robinson is a former Navy officer who came to Plano 24 years ago to plan EDS' relocation and develop Legacy business park.
Friends say he can be gruff, direct, demanding and relentless -- just the kind of person needed to make an arts hall happen.
Mr. Robinson, president of the Arts of Collin County Commission, has been working behind the scenes for more than four years to overcome obstacles in the way of the center.
"For a project to be successful, it takes a leader with a tremendous amount of tenacity," said James Baudoin, who began last month as executive director of the arts center. "That's Robbie in a nutshell."
