Feb. 26--Harriett Goodfriend said the lonesome sound of an occasional freight train whistle adds to the pastoral feel of her home along the McKamy Branch of White Rock Creek in Far North Dallas.

"I don't mind the train as it goes by now," she said. "It's a nostalgic sound to me."

She's certain she wouldn't feel the same, though, if Dallas Area Rapid Transit replaced that sound with the regular rush of a commuter train. She plans to...
