Feb. 28--PAWTUCKET -- A year ago, Mayor James E. Doyle criticized the School Committee for negotiating a one-year contract extension with the teachers' union without demanding that teachers pick up part of the rapidly rising cost of health care.
Last week, a City Council member had the same complaint.
"I think it's time for teachers to step up to the plate and negotiate a co-pay," Ward 1 City Councilor David P. Moran said, as he voted with other council members to approve a new three-year contract with the Pawtucket Firefighters Independent Union.
