Feb. 28--An Oregon-based developer wants Gig Harbor to ease its density restrictions for assisted-living and retirement communities to help meet a growing demand for senior housing.
Mountain West Senior Housing, LLC, which operates 22 complexes in Washington and Oregon, is asking Gig Harbor to make a change so that each individual senior residence is considered equal to one-third of a regular "dwelling unit," such as an apartment.
That means developers could put up three times as many senior living units on a piece of land as they can today. The city now limits the number that can be built...
