A travel magazine recently published a list of the top 10 "travel-inspiring" movies, which contained some, to me, odd choices. Like "Lost in Translation," which seemed to incite a desire less for globetrotting than for room service. "When Harry Met Sally ..." was included, as a grand love letter to New York, though the city is a much larger character in some of Woody Allen's movies.
Only two of the films on the list were foreign: "Y Tu Mama Tambien" and "Amelie" which, again, seemed more a hymn to serendipity than to Paris. (Except for that one magnificent scene in which our girl takes the blind man by the arm and leads him, with rapid-fire word pictures,...
