It's a good thing Oscar doesn't have eyelids. They would have slipped shut, as those of millions of Americans undoubtedly did, during Sunday's all-time snorer of an Academy Awards telecast.
Don't blame Chris Rock in his hosting debut. The only way he could have saved this show was to extend his monologue to four hours. With the exception of a typically manic turn by Robin Williams, the opening was the only life the telecast had.
