Once upon a time in Kansas City, Carlos Beltran was part of a duo called Dos Carlos, but that was with a decent little second baseman named Carlos Febles. This pairing would have taken place in the world's media capital, and Beltran's running mate would have been a power-hitting monster named Carlos Delgado.
So it took all the restraint Beltran could muster not to lean too hard on his good friend from back home in Puerto Rico. They spoke several times by phone in mid-January as Delgado weighed whether to become the final piece in a dizzying off-season spending spree by the New York Mets.
