BAGHDAD, Iraq _ In what could prove to be a major coup in the battle against insurgents, the Iraqi government Sunday announced the capture of one of Saddam Hussein's half brothers, who has been identified as a top financier and organizer for the guerrillas.
Syria appears to have played a role in the detention of Sabawi Ibrahim al-Hassan, who frequently has been cited by U.S. and Iraqi officials as one of the most significant of the former Baath Party officials suspected to be organizing the insurgency from neighboring Syria.
In a brief statement, the Iraqi government announced the arrest of al-Hassan, a former top official in Iraq's security apparatus, but did not give details about how it occurred.
