FORT MYERS, Fla. _ Trading Sammy Sosa might not turn out to be the Cubs' biggest risk. It also might not be counting on Nomar Garciaparra rather than signing Carlos Beltran.

Not many people seem to be talking about the decision to allow Matt Clement to leave as a free agent. But given Clement's consistency during the last three seasons, his departure has the potential to generate

just as much angst.

If Kerry Wood, Mark Prior, Carlos Zambrano or Greg Maddux gets injured in 2005, the Cubs will miss the understated Clement. After all, he had more wins and innings pitched than Wood and Prior over his three seasons in Chicago.
