MILWAUKEE _ Shani Davis didn't make it easy on himself at the U.S. Short Track Championships.
A disqualification from his best event, Friday's 1,500 meters, meant Davis needed a strong performance in his weakest, the 500, to finish high enough overall for a spot at the world short-track speedskating meet.
"That 1,500 hurt my pride," Davis said. "But sometimes you need to lose. It's a wake-up call."
Davis, the 22-year-old from Chicago, reacted with a strong third-place effort in Saturday's 500, went on to another third in Sunday's 1,000 and wound up with the fifth and final place on the team that will go to the worlds March 11-13 in Beijing....
