FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. _ The Ford Championship at Doral promises to glitter when the tournament's first round begins Thursday in Miami.

That's because this year's star-studded lineup is rekindling memories of the event's glory days, when a parade of stars refused to miss the pilgrimage to the Blue Monster golf course to duel in the sun.

Right from the start, back in the inaugural event in 1962, Miami's PGA Tour event was show-stopping entertainment with Billy Casper holding off a young Jack Nicklaus, an aging but still gifted Ben Hogan and a rookie named Paul Bondeson to win down the stretch. Arnold Palmer, Sam Snead, Gary Player, Julius Boros, Cary Middlecoff, Tommy Bolt and Doug Ford were among the biggest names in golf, and they were all there.
