Feb. 25--AUSTIN -- Gov. Rick Perry defended a $295 million incentive fund designed to encourage corporations to create or relocate jobs in Texas, saying it has helped the state weather tough economic times.
Created two years ago, the Texas Enterprise Fund was meant to spark job creation in the state by giving grants to companies. Lately, however, it has come under criticism for not holding recipients accountable for job creation in some instances.
Also, experts said that even with the fund, the state has had anemic job growth. In 2004, Texas added just 124,800 jobs, less than the 144,000 to 180,000 jobs...
