* Short Track Nationals, Round 1
Simply put, last year's TT season opener was a muddy mess. The weather didn't cooperate. After picture-perfect practice sessions Friday, rain doused racers' anxious desires to start the TT season Saturday, forcing racing action to move to Sunday. With Wayne County Speedway hosting the opener nearly a month later this year, the chance of a washout should decrease.
If rain stays away this year, look for exciting racing action as option lanes add to the fast-paced and furious action.
Racers are put to the test early on this track when an option-lane decision presents itself after the first hairpin turn. When the split merges back together, prepare to tackle a kicker jump. But another lane choice creeps up fast after the kicker, forcing a split around a turn. For spectators watch for near spills and crashes when the two lanes merge back together on the second hairpin turn.
When the track is in prime condition, look for high speeds as TT tires hook-up well on the blue-groove track at Wayne County Speedway.

2004 winner: Keith Little
Many riders will remember this race for an unfortunate ruling last year that sent Tim Farr to the back row. Keith Little took advantage and cruised to victory on the red-clay track at Birch Creek Motorsports Park.
The red-clay track generally offers the best tire hook-up in the racing series, as long as it's not saturated with water. Last year, 90-degree temperatures made racing difficult, but thunderstorms opened up during Saturday racing, cooling temperatures and forcing action to Sunday. With the...
