FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. _ Most were expecting a grand entrance. They anticipated a limousine bringing Sammy Sosa to Fort Lauderdale Stadium for his first workout.
He arrived at 9:38 a.m. in his Range Rover and met with manager Lee Mazzilli. At 10:08, he stepped onto the field.
There was excitement in the air, but considerably less fanfare.
"It wasn't a circus," Mazzilli said, "but it was a little bit different atmosphere. It was good exposure for our team. It was great for the young kids to see what it is like."
