Feb. 23--OIL SURGED ABOVE $51 a barrel yesterday, for the first time since November, as cold weather boosted demand and sent a shiver through the stock market.
Higher oil prices and a weak dollar pressured stocks, which had their worst day in more than five months, with the Dow sliding 174.02 to 10,611.20.
